As my gut bloats in protest to the overindulgence of the holidays, which now begin a week before Halloween for me, I thought I would share a couple picks for those out in WB’s land with an ear for Organ Jazz.
The smokin trio 3osity has a new one out under the name Tri-Ocity, that features tunes from Billy Strayhorn, Wayne Shorter, Charlie Mingus, John Coltrane and Larry Young. This disc delivers the goods if you’re looking for solid Hammond B3/Guitar/Drums combo.
The second disc comes from guitarist Corey Christiansen who keeps showing up on my jazz music channel on cable. Every time I hear these guys I think, holy-moly, who is that? Every time it is the same name, CC, that I’ve never checked out until now. These guys are well worth listening to. Similar to Tri-ocity, but with a great tenor sax player. This disc also features the same organ player, Pat Bianchi, from 3/Tri-ocity.
