Basically, there’s a vulnerability in the XMLRPC for older versions of wordpress. I’ve been pretty diligent with my updates but that apparently didn’t stop the problem because even uf you o stay up to date, you still need to wipe you database out and start with a clean db and import your old posts, etc. Sounds like a MAJOR p.i.t.a. Some details on the pervasiveness of the exploit here . crap. crap. crap.
