Sometime around early Fall of 2006–back when we were still living in Providence– some people from Disney knocked on our door. They asked us if we’d be OK with them using our house in an upcoming movie. We said, “sure” but they ended up using a house a block away from ours instead. The movie they wanted to use it for was Dan in Real Life. We watched it the other night. The first 15 minutes or so is filmed in that house in our old neighborhood. It felt a bit surreal seeing it. Even our local coffee shop is featured in the movie. It’s also a bit strange how much the house they filmed it in looks like our old house. There’s something very unique about early 20th century houses in Providence but I can’t put my finger on it. Anyway, the movie is interesting. I wish the whole thing were shot in our old neighborhood but if you watch it you’ll see why it could not have been so.
