artscap Interviews

This is cool.

Artscap is a local arts organization in Asbury Park, NJ. I set them up with Drupal a few months ago and they just picked it up immediately and ran with it. I love the idea that local artists are interviewing other local artists.

That artscap can publish interviews, nicely-formatted and without any sort of webmaster/gatekeeper is a good thing. I think the immediate gratification of self-publishing can be a self-feeding system that generates more ideas for interesting content (like local artists interviewing local artists).

NJ is a densely-populated state and perhaps this density is responsible for some of the deep levels of cynicism and distrust that I’ve encountered since moving here. By giving groups like artscap the tools they need to build community and organize, they can break down some of this cynicism. These artists interviewing artists create connections that weren’t there before the interviews. They pull back the veil of isolationism on the interviewer and interviewee in a way that the reader feels that both individuals are approachable. This is a good thing.
