Will the Muppets ride again?

200701310945

One of the best memories of TV that I have from my childhood is watching the Muppets. It seemed like a kids show that parents sort of liked watching. And now, when I watch the old Muppets Show episodes with Jay on DVD I am as psyched to sit down and watch them as he is. The music is exceptional and the show manages to be funny to both kids and adults.

So it looks like there’s a chance that the Muppet Show may be back on the air again. Sure, it won’t be as good without Jim Henson but as long as the standards for quality that he had are adhered to, it’ll likely be kick ass.

Old school

Lately I’ve been making myself more antiquated, turning neo-Luddite more every day, shunning the conveniences of modernity. It started a year ago, really, when I decided to start making all my own bread. Now every Monday I’m baking at least 4 loaves of 100% whole wheat sourdough (I can’t even bring myself to use commercial yeast). A couple months ago I wondered what it would be like to shave with a straight razor. When my mom found out, she promptly bought me a starter kit with soap, strop and razor. I’ve tried it a couple times with varying degrees of success and trembling hands (that razor is scary sharp). Nutrition has been more and more on my mind. A while back we joined a co-op to get organic fruits and vegetables. Then I started reading the labels of my “food” more and reading books like The China Study and The Omnivore’s Dilemma that have made me really start eating fewer processed foods. If you’re interested at all in thinking more about what you eat, here’s a NYT article by the author of that second book. Then join me for a nice salad and some homemade bread.

upgrade time!

Righto, then.

Things are looking strange indeed around here. I’m upgrading wordpress since whatever crufty version I’ve been running has pretty much totally stopped working (people couldn’t post comments and now WB’ers can’t post entries). This should all be fixed up shortly. Stay tuned.

update;

well, aside from this totally unacceptable weirdness everything went just swimmingly. I think my very nice looking 3col theme is what’s causing so many problems though. It’s just so kludgey. I’m going to try out a new one over the next few days. Keep your fingers crossed.

Essential Albums

For the past several days, I’ve been lying around in bed trying to get over a case of bronchitis. To stave off the madness from cabin fever I started thinking about what albums I enjoy listening to in their entirety. Meaning, there are a ton of great bands that have a crapload of great singles but there are very few artists who put out great albums. This is probably even less common now due to the 99 cent download which encourages tracks vs. albums. I’m not saying that’s a good thing or a bad thing, just that I know that there are some albums that I like hearing as a whole and want to make sure that I got them on my iPod in case the mood hits. So, without further ado, here’s (after the jump) my playlist of essential albums. I’m quite sure I missed a few here so please add the one’s I’ve missed as comments. Thanks!
