We may not be able to put an exact date on when “shareholder value” trumped moral values for Americans, but at least we can put some pictures to it:
“Tiananmen” on images. google. com (Google US)
“Tiananmen” on images.google.cn (Google China)

For the past several months I’ve been alternating between FlickrExport and 1001 as my tools of choice for getting pictures from iPhoto to Flickr. I like the feature sets of both applications but I’ve found 1001 to be a lot more stable than FlickrExport. I’ve found that–especially when uploading a few hundred MBs of snaps, FlickrExport sometimes just hangs on me. Your mileage may vary. That being said, I’ve also found that 1001 has a bit steeper learning curve since it’s sometimes difficult to tell whether you’re working (setting info/permissions) on a batch of pictures or just an individual picture.

Since I just posted about some new music the other day, I figured I’d post about something a bit older today. It’s amazing how few “5 star” tracks I have in iTunes. Out of 13956 tracks, only 14 have currently earned the 5-star rating. I’ll try to post them over the coming weeks. For this week though, and given the general mood of many folks around town today, I figured some blues were in order. So here’s the one blues tune in my library with a 5-star rating:
These Things, Robert Cray from Midnight Stroll. If you don’t have this in your collection, go buy it. Not only does this track feature some of RC’s best singing, but it’s one of the most tasteful uses of effects on a guitar solo, ever.
Cliff[1] hooked me up with this link to a much better Firefox for my powerbook. The processor utilization when Firefox is in the background is now negligible (it used to hover around 20% as a background task). If you’re on a mac and want to get a PPC-optimized build of firefox, have at it. Thanks Cliff!
[1] I couldn’t find any better links for Cliff on Google. That being said, he’s our current intern over at the Dept. of State. If you’re in Florida and looking to hire a great programmer, drop me a line and I’ll put you in touch with him.
