pinch me, tell me i ‘m not dreaming

there is a guy in florida who filed a lawsuit(along with the ACLU) against the Tampa Bay Bucs because he felt that the pat down prior to entering the stadium is a violation of his rights.

i just dont get it so i ask this of the readers of the blog.
if some bad apple throws a bottle that was smuggled into the stadium and cuts some kids face open, should the ACLU and this easily offended person be held liable? now dont get me wrong, i understand that the NFL is looking for bombs but i can remember being pat down sometimes going into games prior to 9/11 not to mention at almost every concert that i have attended. they are not always searching for bombs but for other dangerous or “non tolerated” items to increase the safety all.
what is this guy trying to prove? if people have nothing concealed then there wont be a problem. whats next, filing a lawsuit against the secuity at the airport for screening your luggage and making you pass through a metal detector? where do you draw the line and more importantly, why?

this is my favorite excerpt from this site
Take a walk into the NYCLU’s Manhattan headquarters - which it shares with other organizations - and you’ll find a sign warning visitors that all bags are subject to search.

  1. 1 Jeremy (Milner, not Willis)

I’m trying to figure out where I stand on this issue as both a proud Democrat and a supporter of the government keeping its laws off my body :)

So, the guy at the Bucs game is probably a jerk…I’m sure we’ve all met him somewhere along the line. He’s either looking for cash anywhere he can find it or is some wacko libertarian (send all letters to Jim Willis) who thinks his rights are violated 20-times a day. He’s going to drop hot coffee on himself next week and sue McDonalds, or eat three double cheeseburgers (mmm, double cheeseburgers) have a heart attack and, well, sue McDonalds.

The real question is the existence of the ACLU. It’s a pretty slippery slope if we don’t allow these more frivilous lawsuits to exist, at least to a point. The ACLU keeps the fringe alive so the rest of us can exist in the middle ground of real instances where legal action is warranted. The only group more hated than the trial lawyers is the insurance companies…I’d rather be pissed about frivilous lawsuits than lose my ability to hold some business accountable for legitimate negligence.
