pinch me, tell me i ‘m not dreaming

there is a guy in florida who filed a lawsuit(along with the ACLU) against the Tampa Bay Bucs because he felt that the pat down prior to entering the stadium is a violation of his rights.

i just dont get it so i ask this of the readers of the blog.
if some bad apple throws a bottle that was smuggled into the stadium and cuts some kids face open, should the ACLU and this easily offended person be held liable? now dont get me wrong, i understand that the NFL is looking for bombs but i can remember being pat down sometimes going into games prior to 9/11 not to mention at almost every concert that i have attended. they are not always searching for bombs but for other dangerous or “non tolerated” items to increase the safety all.
what is this guy trying to prove? if people have nothing concealed then there wont be a problem. whats next, filing a lawsuit against the secuity at the airport for screening your luggage and making you pass through a metal detector? where do you draw the line and more importantly, why?

Take a walk into the NYCLU’s Manhattan headquarters - which it shares with other organizations - and you’ll find a sign warning visitors that all bags are subject to search.

Netflix Calculator

Thanks to Kent for pointing me in the direction of this NYT piece on entertainment spending. The article has a link to a coolio spreadsheet that calculates how much (if any) money you’re saving on your Netflix plan vs. renting at the local vid store. I’m saving about $5 a month on netflix.

Jers picks

new music tuesday to lighten the tone on WB a bit.

Grace Potter & the Noctournals. haling from VT –she’s young, sexy, and can really sing. think threesome involving norah jones, fiona apple and bonnie raitt –on top of a hammond organ. hotcha!

Trey Anastasio’s post Phish effort, “Shine” is actually pretty cool. lots of cool guitar work and not so much crazt zappa stuff. Skeeto Valdez on drums is a total monster, though I hear he’s off the tour now. there’s almost a hard rock edge to some of the material here. worth checking out.

Bruce Springsteen’s 30th anniversary of Born to Run DVD and podcast
…if you’re not listening to podcasts at work, you’re missing out on a whole new level of distraction :). this DVD is totally at the top of my xmas list.

“Plans” by Death Cab for Cutie. still in hot rotation here. even my boss likes it.

Mofro, “Blackwater”. Hoped to see this band at ACL, but that will have to wait for another time. incidentally, ACL is redeeming my unused tix from this year’s festival for 2006 tix. can’t wait!!

Seu Jorge does all of these great Bowie covers on the “Life Aquatic” soundtrack. The whole soundtrack is a lot of fun, really.

I understand that Sam Prekop has a new one out too. but I’m not hip to it yet.

finally, John Mayer Trio’s TRY! is out. very bluesy. not your typical john mayer serving here, but that’s the attraction here. check it out.
