First Greasemonkey script — Amazon PPL Linky

OK folks. I’m clearly procrastinating today, so take advantage of all my subconscious aversion to doing the work I’m supposed to be doing and tryout my first greasemonkey script.

Amazon PPL Linky
What:
When browsing a book at the Amazon.com bookstore you’ll see a link on the page to check the Providence Public Library’s catalog for that book.
How: Install Greasemonkey. Click the link below and go to Tools/Install this user script . . .

I should note that if the ISBN search comes back with no results from PPL, try making sure you’re looking at the hardcopy version of the book.

Your script looks simple enough - I see a lot of regex stuff happening. I love the idea - but there is something that just seems a little “off” by the whole thing. Maybe it’s the fact that I have to download something to get it work…. Kind-of the opposite of what the Web2.0 is supposed to be about…..

The end result (I’ll take your word for it) is awesome.

I think you have to see it in action to see just why you need to download something (greasemonkey, to wit). Basically, you’re changing the contents of a published document, I can’t see how you’d do that with a server-side script (on the host server at least). Perhaps if the folks at firefox would just make greasemonkey part of the default install there’d be less of a barrier here. Basically, I see greasemonkey as part of the glue that binds web 1.0 apps together to make them web 2.0 ;-)

Thanks. A clean script that works well. Nice job.
