I have not yet organized my theory to the contrary but the idea at the center of it is; So what? what do you gain from all the extra time, if indeed that time is not spent on mastering the technology, and is not spent earning the monies required to purchase said technologies than what? Leisure time used to be reserved for the fortunate, but it seems that leisure, can be a bit of a puzzle. I am grateful for the extra time that I have when work is over but inevitably it gets filled with crappola. Yardwork, cleaning, chores, repairing and maintanence all kinds of stuff. Iguess its maybe not a big problem for those with tons of money. At what point do we realize that our stuff isn't working for us, but we're working for our stuff. The trappings of materialism are loaded with contradictions, but I'll play along till I get it figured out. There is much more driving my thoughts on this subject lately but I must go work for my things now.

there should be some representation on the scale as to what would happen if you spent ALL of your time learning about technology and the applications. i think that the betterness would drop back down toward zero since ALL the time is spent learning and NOT applying. so jim, if you could redraw that graph to represent more of a "proper" distribution curve that would be great, and productive, and better.

Consider if you were for example, a truck driver, as I was up until recently.

I'd take sitting at the computer, being at home, learning the new technology and gradually over time lessening the hours in front of a pc, rather than a 5am start, going out scraping the windows of your car, being cold and working for 12 - 15 hours per day 6 days a week!

Thank god for the internet, and thank god there are those among us who keep making it easier for us!!!!!
