Oh Baby!!! Here it comes…

Many of you know that among many hundreds of things chili and beer rank among my top ten or so favorite things that we are able glutton ourselves with while we are mortal. Just a short drop down the ladder you might find boneless Buffalo wings and cheese steak sandwiches. Yes, yes, I know. This area of the list also includes my wife, family, breathing, Jesus and other precious and cherished items but it is these edible items that start to glow and gyrate this time of year (almost ready to leap off the paper as if they were alive and know it is their time and shining moment).
You see, the Super Bowl is on Sunday. It is on this day that football fans across the world get it all out until September. The Giants are not even in it but the desire to get a good seat and spend the day watching the final game of the season as well as breakout commercials gets me all sorts of gaga. Liz expects no less either. SO… All week I will try to keep the streak going as the perfect husband. I will clean, bathe, cook, take out the garbage, tell Liz how pretty she is, have un-wavering patience with the kids and Liz, encourage shopping binges, a massage or two and whatever else keeps the hall pass for Sunday glowing in anticipation of it’s redemption at “The Globe”.
I hope it is not anticlimactic. Sometimes I get ahead of myself. I was nervous heading to Key West because I had built it up so much for the months leading up to my trip but I was very lucky to have my expectations exceeded. My game plan for Sunday is to wait for Liz to return from a race she is running in preparation for the NYC marathon. I will hopefully get a bar stool at The Globe at around 4:30-5 pm. I’ll start with some boneless wings and a few beers. At halftime I might get a philly steak with onions or a French dip on garlic toast with grilled onions. Well done curly or steak fries always fare well also. One thing I do know is that I will travel by cab. Whenever I go to watch football I will ride my bike or take a cab as I never really know how long the game will last. Sometime during the game I will probably eat some chili with a topping of cheese and onions.
I hope this year I hit one of those big boxes. That would be nice. I also hope that Liz is fast asleep when I get home because I do not want to wake her if I am slightly buzzed.
I hope the Eagles win because they are the underdog, that’s it!. I have no allegiance to the city with the worst fans.

WOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!!!!
SIX DAYS TILL KICKOFF!!!!

    Recipe for NOT being let down on Superbowl Sunday;

    one 3 1/3 lb pork picnic shoulder prepped with 1/4 dryrub on saturday morning

    1 bottle bbq sauce

    1 crockpot to put the shoulder in 10 hrs before gametime (coincides with the taking of one prilosec)

    bag of good rolls

    rolling rock (goes better with bbq than bud for some reason)

    i don’t want to jinx the forthcoming dynasty so i’ll stop there ;-)

    Which are worse Boston fans or Philly fans? Indeed an arguement for the ages… shanty Irish with bad accents vs other shanty Irish with bad accents…Hmmmm tough one.
    When I worked at Jersey Mikes subs back in H.S. we would occasionally get a customer that would come in and ask for a “Hoagie”(The Philly term for a sub). It used to aggravate me to no end. I worked at Jersey Mikes Subs, not Jersey Mikes Hoagies.. I always wished I could have pulled some soup nazi shit and kicked them out of the store on the spot. “NO SUB FOR YOU…YOU COME BACK IN 1 YEAR”
